This Year's Model Updates:

The Grand Prix underwent a redesign for 2004, but those familiar with the big sedan will find its blend of performance and comfort hasn't changed much.

Pros:
  • Strong supercharged V6, nimble handling, attractive gauges, easy-to-use controls, big trunk, fold-flat front-passenger seat.
Cons:
  • Build and materials quality still needs work, tight backseat, noisy engine, not enough storage or cupholders, no auto climate control.

Its hard to write everything I like about the car: performance, handling, mileage (for the performance, its pretty darn good), the front seats, features, options, looks...im sure theres more. The drawbacks: I probably could have been OK with the added MPG of the GT over the performance of the GTP, but whats the fun in that? Im glad I dont ever have to ride in the backseat. Ride seems to stiffen a lot during cold weather, more than any car ive owned in the past.

As a former salesman at a luxury high- end new car dealer, I am definitely impressed with this car! And, Ive driven probably a couple of thousand different cars(cadillac, lexus, infinity, acura, and the normal domestics, etc) Pontiac did an excellent job with the 2004 Grand Prix. I kept finding myself going ever so faster on the highway. Virtually no roadnoise at 80 mph+. I recently did a 300 mile road trip through small towns and highway driving & averaged 28.5 mpg. Tons of legroom in the front seats. Easy to read displays. Some people complain that the interior plastic is too plain, but I was never a fan of imitation wood trim as on some of the "high end" cars.

The car has run great, performance is excellent. It has a large trunk and is very comfortable. The Heads Up Display is a plus. This car replaces an 04 Altima. Reason for replacement was the Altima, like many Foriegn brands, have no space.

  • Simply a great car - 2004 Pontiac Grand Prix

I didnt think American manufacturers would ever figure out that this is the kind of car consumers want. Looks great, fun to drive, good interior design, and doesnt cost $40k. Much better ride than the Maxima (which costs more) and way ahead of the Audi A4 in every way I can think of. Oh yeah - get the Competition Group option. Best $1300 youll ever spend.

The car really looks and runs great. Plenty of passersby comment on how nice it looks. I would have hoped for better mileage, but other than that, I have been entirely satisfied.

When we first saw this car my husband wanted it from the start. I must say I really didnt like the looks of it so we looked at something different. I listened to my husband and we bought it. However, I must say, I am in love with it now. The handling of it, its looks, everything. I cant say one bad thing about this car. I would buy another one today. My hubby wants the GTO now. I have never been big on GM cars but I must say they did good with this one.

  • Glad to be back in a car! - 2004 Pontiac Grand Prix

The family had been driving SUVs and Minivans for years because the kids volume of friends and stuff demanded it. Now that we have a teenage driver it was time to get a vehicle with some drivability back in the driveway. The Grand Prix has delivered a powerful drive and been okay at the pump -- knowingly and acceptingly self- inflicted.

After 7 months and 12000 miles I’m still glad I bought it. Had some serious fit & finish issues (listed below) but for the price (after rebates) I defiantly got my moneys worth. Very sexy looking car! Alot of fun to drive! Recommend the GTP with Monsoon sound system. Yes, I would buy again.

If you currently have an older GTP you must get the 04! I had a loaded 01 GTP and just stopped in the dealer because I saw the 04 on the lot. All I was interested in was the TAP shift, but once I got up close and personal I could not believe how much the car has improved. The pictures on the web and magazines do not do justice to how well this car looks, put the 01 and 04 side by side and there is no comparison. That is only the tip of the iceburg, you must get in this car! The Competition Group (WS6) is the way to go, only ~$1400 package, to get the full effect. P.S. if you live in NH the "04-GTP" personal plate is taken :)- !
